Categories: Art, Craft / Design

Born Bishop's Stortford. Studied at Lambeth School of Art where she was a student of John Sparkes. Began work at Doulton's in 1871, the first female employee, she specialised in painting animals. Her siblings, Arthur, Florence and Lucy also worked at Doulton's. Died 46 Binfield Road, Clapham.

Amanda Draper, Curator of Art and Exhibitions, at Liverpool University's Victoria Gallery has written a lovely post: "Hannah Barlow: Decorating with Animals". This draws our attention to the cat peeking out from under her chair in the Doulton tympanum.
