Lewisham War Memorials gives the following information: "War Service: Staff Sergeant HARRY CHARLES CARTWRIGHT of 139 Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps was killed in action on 23 March 1918, aged 32. At some stage during his military career he had been Mentioned in Despatches. Location of Memorial: He is remembered on the Arras Memorial and on the memorial outside University Hospital Lewisham. and on the now lost Lewisham Board of Guardians Memorial Board. The inscription describes him as one of ‘the officers of this institution’ and it seems likely that he was employed by the Lewisham Infirmary before it became a military hospital in 1915. Details: He was the son of Emma Cartwright, of 13, Earlswood St., East Greenwich, London, and the late Henry George Cartwright and husband of Sarah Mabel Cartwright, of 61, Hawstead Road., Catford. When he enlisted on 2 September 1914 he gave his occupation as ambulance attendant."
