Singer-songwriter. Born Ian Robins Dury at 43 Weald Rise, Harrow. At the age of seven he contracted poliomyelitis and attended Chailey Heritage Craft School. This was also a hospital for disabled children which believed in toughening up its pupils in order to face their disabilities. After studying art, he turned to music, performing with his backing group The Blockheads. They had several hits including 'Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll' and 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick'.
