Mark Colin Alexander Smith was born on 13 October 1981 the elder child of Colin J. Smith and Jean M. Smith née Corper. His birth was registered in the Lambeth registration district. The birth of his sister, Stacey Jean L. Smith, was registered in September 1984 in the Wandsworth registration district.

Electoral registers from 2003 to 2010 list him at 62 Waddon Park Avenue, Croydon, CR0 4LU. In July 2014 he became engaged to his girlfriend, Indrei, and they planned to marry in 2017 in Mexico. Their son, Lucas Colin Smith, was born on 27 April 2015. The Inside Croydon website gives details of his life.

A window fitter, he died, aged 35 years, on 9 November 2016, a victim of the Croydon Tram Derailment.
