Nordahl Grieg

Categories: Literature, Nationalism, Poetry

Countries: Norway

Norwegian poet, novelist, dramatist, journalist and political activist.

Our Norwegian consultant, Johanne Elster Hanson, says that "Grieg adored England and spent many periods of his life here. He lived in London from 1940 until his early death in 1943. He married Gerd Egede-Nissen on 23 June 1940and and they lived together at the South Kensington Hotel, which soon became a focal point for the exiled Norwegians."

He was in the Norwegian army during WW2. He contributed to the war effort with his writings and held readings wherever Norwegians were posted. Working as a war correspondent he accompanied a bombing raid over Berlin. The plane was shot down and everyone on board died.
