Queen Adelaide

Categories: Royalty

As the wife of King William IV, Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen was our queen and Queen of Hanover, 1830-7.

She was married in 1818 and in 1819 the royal household moved from Germany to England and used Clarence House in St James's and Bushy House near Hampton Court. After 5 or 6 pregnancies the couple failed to produce any surviving children. When she was widowed in 1837 Victoria became queen, and Adelaide lived out her life as the dowager queen at Bushy House.

Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia founded in 1836, is named after her.

Died Bentley Priory, Middlesex.
