Samuel Lloyd Howard, DL, JP

1883, Trustee of Lopping Hall, Loughton. Born Tottenham. Died Menton, France.

From "Photographic pedigree of the descendants of Isaac and Rachel Wilson" (1912) via Flickr: "Samuel Lloyd Howard, of Ashmore Manor, Dorset, Lieut. - Col. Essex Artillery Volunteers, born at Tottenham, 13th December, 1827, died at Mentone, on 3rd February, 1901, aged 73. Married at Bristol 27th October,1853, age 25, Caroline Ball, daughter of Richard Ball and his wife Mary Ash, She was born at Bristol in 1830, and died at Tottenham on 15th December, 1853, aged 23. s.p. Married, secondly, in London on 15th September, 1891, Emily Fletcher, Widow of Thos. K. Fletcher, and daughter of George Ray, Surgeon. She died at Loughton on 5th February, 1903." This photo came from that page and, though it's not clear, we think it shows SLH.

According to G. Sludge: "Samuel L Howard b. Tottenham, a widow{er}, and Lt Colonel with the 1st Essex Fusiliers.

From Ashmore Genealogical Records: "Lieut.-Col. Samuel Lloyd Howard C. B., D. L., J. P. of Goldings, Loughton, Essex and of The Cottage, is lord of the manor and principal landowner."
