Samuel Palmer

Samuel Palmer

1857 joined his brother, George, in the family biscuit firm, Huntley and Palmers, based in Reading. Ran the London office and lived with his family in Hampstead in a house close to the site of the fountain from 1880.

From Rootschat we think that Samuel was born in Somerset c.1820, married Mary Jane Marsh in 1856 in Hackney. One of their children was (Samuel) Ernest Palmer, 1st Baron Palmer (1858 - 1948). Interestingly, in 1881 Samuel and Jane were recorded at 60 Finchley Road, which is immediately behind the house that they were having built at that time.

From Daily Mail 10 April 1903: "Mr. Samuel Palmer, the last survivor of the three brothers who founded: the well-known biscuit-making firm, of Huntley and Palmer, died in his eighty-fourth year at his residence, Northcourt, Hampstead, yesterday morning."
