Playwright. Born John Casey in Dublin. He was a strong supporter of the Irish Nationalist cause, changing his name to Seán Ó Cathasaigh. His first play, 'The Shadow of a Gunman', was performed at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, in 1923, and was followed by his better known works 'The Plough and the Stars' and 'Juno and the Paycock'. He moved to London to supervise the West End production of the latter, and it was here that he got married in 1927. The couple remained in London until 1938 when they moved to Totnes. In his later years wrote a six-volume Autobiography. Died Torquay.
