Sir H. H. Montgomery

Categories: Religion

Countries: India, Ireland, Tasmania

Born Henry Hutchinson Montgomery in India, son of a colonial administrator. 1879 appointed Vicar of St Mark's Kennington. 1889 became bishop of Tasmania. In 1887 he inherited his father's estate in Ireland, where he died. Father of Field Marshal Montgomery.

The information boards at the church describe him as a historian but we think there is confusion with David Henry Montgomery, an American author of history textbooks. HH did write books but with theological or missionary subjects.
