Philanthropist. Born Norfolk. Prominent Putney resident, co-founder of the Putney School of Art 1883, Mayor of Wandsworth 1901-2, and churchwarden of St Mary's for 30 years. Aged 17 joined the Prudential Assurance Company and rose to Deputy Manager, retiring in 1920. He gave to Putney Council a mace made from wood from the old Putney Bridge. Died at home, his mansion South Lynn on Putney Hill (now the West Point block of flats). Grandfather of Osbert Lancaster. The Putney Society have done good research on this man.
