We can't find anything about Sister Catherine Elizabeth. The plaque gives 'SC' which normally indicates Sisters of Charity. Which is odd since the local order was the Society of the Holy Cross, normally indicated by 'SSC'. Presumably she was killed when the church was bombed.
We published the above in October 2017 and in October 2020 Andrew Behan informed us as follows:
She was born as Daisy Katherine Elizabeth Coates in December 1897 and her birth was registered in the Croydon, Surrey registration district. She was the third daughter of the four children of Henry Charles Coates and Ada Elizabeth Annie Coates née Etherington. Her father was an optician.
On 17 July 1898 she was baptised in St Mary Magdalene with St Mathias Church, Richmond, Surrey. The baptismal record gives her date of birth as 11 December 1897 and the family address as 31 Alexandra Road, South Norwood. The 1901 census shows her living with her family at 73 Milford Road, East Twickenham, Middlesex.
She joined the Sisters of Charity at The House of Charity, Knowle, Bristol and adopted the name of Sister Catherine Elizabeth. The 1939 England and Wales Register shows her registered as a Sister of Charity at St Peter's Mission House, Wapping Lane, Stepney but, confusingly, her date of birth is recorded as 6 December 1897.
She died, aged 42 years, in an air raid on 15 October 1940 at St Peter's Mission House and was buried there on 22 October 1940. She is also commemorated in the Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour, located near St George's Chapel in Westminster Abbey.
