Skiffle

Categories: Music / songs

A short lived music genre of the 1950s. A mixture of jazz, blues and folk music, it originated in the United States earlier in the century. In Britain, its main performer was Lonnie Donegan, who became known as the 'King of Skiffle'. A lot of its popularity was due to the fact that is was easy to perform; using a cheap guitar, a washboard with metal thimbles and a pole with a string attached to a tea-chest, as a makeshift double bass.
