Building    From 27/9/1937

Stoke Newington Town Hall

Designed by the architect J. Reginald Truelove in the art deco style. Its assembly hall became popular with a variety of entertainments. In 1965 Stoke Newington was absorbed into the Borough of Hackney and the building went into decline. The 2009 renovation restored many original features. The Architects' Journal's review of the work is revealing.
