Killed in the Dulwich Library air raid aged 29. Our colleague Andrew Behan has kindly researched this man:
Walter Robert Stacey was born on 13 February 1911 in Walworth, the eldest child of Walter James Stacey and Amy Florence Stacey. His father was a Metal Rolling Mills Mechanic, but in later life became a Book Seller. The 1911 census shows the family living at 30 Pasley Road, Walworth. Electoral registers from 1932 show he was living with his parents at 58 Comber House, Comber Grove, Camberwell until 1935 when he married Ruth M Cooke in Rochford, Essex. They lived at 8 Woodwarde Road, East Dulwich and the 1939 England and Wales Register shows his occupation as a Skilled Laboratory Assistant.
The Register of WWII Civilian Deaths for the Metropolitan Borough of Camberwell shows that he died, aged 29 years, on 24 September 1940 together with his wife at 8 Woodeward Road. They were both buried at the Camberwell New Cemetery and Crematorium, Brenchley Gardens, London, SE23 3RD. Probate was granted to his father and his estate totalled £497-3s-0d.
