CG Cattle Trough

Inscription

{On both ends:}
In memoriam C. G. 1886

{On both sides:}
Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association

Site: CG Cattle Trough (1 memorial)

EC1, Ray Street, Railway bridge

Silver Tiger thinks the inscriptions reads "G. G." and that might be right (it's certainly punningly right) but our fingers read "C. G." so that's what we're going with.  He comments on the theft of the plants which is sad, but we are delighted to see some of the brass fitments still in place (see photo).  These items have normally been removed, by officialdom or others, so it is lovely to see this very decorative piece here.

Incidentally, does anyone else see these cattle troughs as animals, with short legs and a snub nose?  No?  Oh, well.
