The waterfall was commissioned by The Economist in memory of Lord Drogheda, deputy chairman, July 1975 - July 1985.

The sculpture is moved solely by the weight of the water.

{The lower plaque reads:}
Warning. This water contains chemicals that could be hazardous to your health.
