National Service
This plaque is in recognition by Southwark Council and the People of Southwark for the part played by its young men conscripted for National Service between 1945 and 1963.

They were our contribution to the two million two hundred thousand others conscripted into the Nations Armed Services.

Unveiled by the Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Major Denise Capstick, May 2003.

There is a movement to have these plaques erected across the UK, coordinated by the National Service Veterans Association.
