Researched in support of Darwin's theory of evolution. Wrote science for lay people to understand. First Director-General of the United Nations Educational and Scientific Organization (UNESCO). Founding member of the World Wildlife Fund. With Alexander Korda made the world's first natural history documentary 'The Private Life of the Gannets', 1934, which won the Best Documentary Oscar.
