Joseph Kremer

Sculptor. Born Tromborn France, studied in Paris. Possibly of German ancestry. 

From Mapping Sculpture: Kremer came to England on 25 September 1859. As his first recorded activity is in Penkhull, Stoke-on-Trent it is likely he came to Britain to work as a modeller for one of the potteries, possibly for Spode. By 1871 Kremer was living in the St. Pancras area of London with his family. From the evidence of the age and birthplace of his offspring (6 children ranging from 5 to 15 all born in France) he returned home to be with his wife and family during the years he was working in England. Kremer died of heart disease at 200 Stanhope Street, NW1. He had been suffering from this condition for the previous year, which may have affected his ability to work.
