Architect and furniture designer. He studied at Bauhaus, and was initially recognised for his so-called 'bicycle-handlebar' inspired tubular steel furniture. He moved to London to escape from Nazi Germany and was employed by the Isokon Company. Died in Manhattan.

The mediaeval church dates from 1174. Rebuilt in 1437 and then destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666. Rebuilt by Christopher Wren 1680.
