Art dealer and collector. Born Hugh Percy Lane In Ballybrack House, Douglas, Cork. He moved to London, and opened an art gallery in 1898. Here he developed a reputation as a shrewd gentleman-dealer. Returning to Ireland, he founded a gallery of modern art in Dublin and became director of the National Gallery there in 1914. He perished on the RMS Lusitania which was sunk by a German u-boat.
