According to G. Sludge, ".. a builder's labourer". At the time this was not a normal occupation for a Trustee of something like Lopping Hall. We wonder if Hawkins was there "representing" Thomas Willingale (a lopper) who had initiated the campaign for lopping rights but had died in 1870.
