The Celtic cross is decorated with twisted rope in the arms with 'IHS' at the centre - see the Teddington Cross for more information on this monograph. The rope is appropriate for this 'Church of the High Seas'.

The lettering is, unusually, made up of dots, pierced in the stone.
The screen wall at the back, south, of the memorial carries a number of bronze panels listing the names.
